With the grass all turning golden, I have tried a subtractive process to create the highlights as I can achieve a cleaner line, cutting back into layers of wax rather than painting it on. A bit like a reductive lino print, you have to work out where you're going at the start. I am quite pleased with the effect, that in the fields particularly looks like a lino cut. A slight interpretation on the photograph, trying to capture the child's hair matching the golden grass proved a little challenge at the scale as the head is about 3mm across.

Not quite sure it improves on the photograph, but it was a fun exercise of working from lighter to darker layers.
